Online shopping versus instore
Online shopping is great for price comparisons. There’s a whole lot of sites out there though and it can be time consuming and confusing. How can you really know what your buying is right for you?
How about coming instore for some friendly invaluable advise. As instructors who’ve been diving for 20 yrs between us, we can give some great hints and diving tips too. We know our products and we are passionate about what we sell. We also pride ourselves in making sure our customers choose the right product for the right type of diving they are doing now and in the future.
But one of the best things about being instore is you can get your new toy in your hand as soon as you’ve bought it!
So come on in, the coffees hot, and the prices are just as good as online.

Winter Courses

Special Winter PADI Courses with Surreys Number 1 Training Centre

Summer 2011 saw a busy time for the Oxygene Surrey Diving School.  With pool training going on every second weekend up at the Surrey Sports Park and courses being finished off here in UK waters and on our Oxygene Escorted Overseas Holidays the certifications soon stacked up!  Now that winter is here its an opportunity to use our classroom a bit more for some of the 'theory' only type courses.  The PADI Enriched Air Diver Course is the most popular PADI Specialty Course and takes just a few hours here in the dive centre to complete.  Underwater Photography has become accessable to all with excellent compact cameras and housings now available.  Our PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Course for Compact Cameras is a theory and pool course only and is an excellent way to learn the tips and techniques that the professionals use to get magazine quality shots.  The PADI Equipment Specialty is for those who want to know how their equipment works, how to look after it and how to make minor adjustments to 'Save a Dive'. The Emergency First Response Course gives the participant the knowledge and skills to be able to help a person in need.  This is a recognised First Aid and CPR Course.  Both these courses take place in the comfort of the dive centre classroom.

Diving for Kids

Diving for Kids

Children are fascinated with the underwater world and the wonders it contains.  These are the divers and marine ambassadors of the future so why not encourage them at an early age to get involved in the healthy and exciting hobby that is diving. The sport of scuba diving has come a long way in the last 40 years.  With technology the equipment has gotten easier and easier to use.  There is even equipment on the market for the small people!  The Oxygene Surrey Scuba School has 10 complete mini kits that would fit even the smallest 8 year old.

Our qualified, CRB checked,  PADI Instructors all have experience teaching kids how to dive.  Keen to pass their love of scuba diving on to the younger generation, they jump at the chance to to be involved with the various diving programs we run for kids.  If you would like your child of 8-10 years, to have a 'try dive' in the pool, the PADI Bubblemaker program is ideal.  If they have tried scuba diving already and liked it (what child doesnt?!), the PADI Seal Team is an excellent way for them to progress.  With various Aqua Missions running over a series of sessions it teaches them the basic scuba skills in a fun environment.  Oxygene Surrey also offers the PADI Discover Snorkelling program which is open to all ages, no experience required.  Have you run out of Birthday Party ideas for your 8-10 year old?  Why not let us arrange a PADI Bubblemaker Party or a PADI Snorkelling Splash Party for you?  With funky invitations and completion certificates your birthday boy or girl will be popular with their friends!  Aqua Art is a fun way for kids to express their artistic capabilites painting fish on tiles with our neighbour Firing Earth.  After a lunch provided by Bricks Restaurant its off down the pool to act like a fish!

Whether you are a diver, parent, school teacher, childcare worker, a builder in the construction industry or setting up your own business, you may find yourself in a situation where you need to provide emergency care for someone.  This course is also a prerequisite for the PADI Rescue Diver Course.

Course Prerequisites:

10 years of age or older.  This course can also be completed by non divers...anyone who is interested in helping another in need!

What You Will Learn:

The course focuses on primary care through a combination of knowledge development, skill development and realistic scenario practice to make sure participants have the confidence in their ability to provide care when emergency situations arise.

Secondary Care (first aid) covers injuries or illnesses that are not immediately life threatening. Participants focus on secondary assessment and first aid through knowledge development, skill development and realistic scenario practice.  Your qualified Instructor is a competant caregiver who will  lead you  through the above modules.  By realistic scenarios he will teach you the skills needed to handle any medical emergency that might arise in your everyday life.

*Standard Extra*

The Emergency First Response Automated External Defibrillation (AED) course builds on the skills learned in the Primary Care (CPR) course to teach the proper AED use. This life saving device can increase a patient's chance of survival from a cardiac arrest by fifty percent. During this course you'll review the basic principles of Primary Care (CPR) and learn how to deploy and use an AED in an emergency situation.  As divers its also important to know the value of 100% oxygen in a diving emergency.  For this reason we also include oxygen set up and use in our EFR courses.

Enriched Air Diver

 PADI Enriched Air Diver Specialty

The PADI Enriched Air Diver course is PADI’s most popular specialty scuba diving course, and it’s easy to see why. Scuba diving with enriched air nitrox gives you more no decompression dive time. This means more time underwater, especially on repetitive scuba dives.  Breathing a higher mix of oxygen means less nitrogen loading and this is good for the body in so many ways.  Many experienced divers comment that they feel less tired whilst diving with diving with Nitrox.

Course Prerequisites

PADI Open Water Diver or above and be 15 years or older.  There are no minimum dives.

To qualify for this course there used to be 2 obligatory dives.  In recent years PADI came upon the realisation that there are no different diving techniques with Nitrox, so made the dives an optional part of the course.  This means it is the perfect winter course as it is classroom only.  The course involves a brief manual and a DVD.  At the end of the course there is a 25 question multiple choice exam.  The entire program takes 3-4 hours here in the classroom.  Alternatively there is an option to complete this course on one of our Red Sea Escorted Dive Holidays.  A great way to get a bit of experience diving with Nitrox under the supervision of one of our Oxygene Instructors.

What You Will Learn:

  • Techniques for getting more dive time by using enriched air nitrox
  • Enriched air scuba diving equipment considerations.
  • Managing oxygen exposure, how to analyse whats in you tank and how to set your dive computer.

Course Cost:  £95 which includes a PADI Enriched Air Crewpack and certification.  For course dates please see the 'Activities' section on our front page.

Inland Dive Site Training

Inland Dive Site Training

The UK offers some excellent coastal diving.  From stunning wrecks on the South Coast to quality diving out of Cornwall, Scilly Islands and the Bristol Channel...there is something to please everyone.  Oxygene Cranleigh has a full 2010 schedule planned.  Please browse our UK dive dates under the tabs to the left if you are interested.

Unfortunately the UK summer weather is not the most predictable and for this reason our Open Water training along the coast often ends up cancelled or postponed.  There is another alternative though....inland dive sites.  These are usually lakes or abandoned gravel pits that have been converted into diver training locations.  The closest one to Oxygene Surrey is Wraysbury Lake.  Along the M25, towards Heathrow Airport it offers a protected and shallow location for training be it the 4 Open Water dives required for the PADI Open Water Certification or Advanced Open Water Dives, Drysuit Speciality Dives, Rescue Course dives and more.  The facilities include a licensed cafe, change rooms, carpark and a tank filling room.

Vobster Quay is around 2 hours drive from the dive centre towards Somerset.  This location is a disused quarry and has a maximum depth of 30m.  With excellent facitilites including changing rooms, cafe, shop, car parks it offers an interesting alternative to Wraysbury Lake.  With the increased depth it is possible to complete the Deep dive for the PADI Advanced course, Deep dives for the PADI Deep Speciality, PADI Drysuit Specialty training dives and more.

Our Wraysbury/Vobster weekends are designed for students to finish off courses here in the UK.  The prices include training, gas fills, equipment rental and certifications.

Joe grew up in Western Australia by the beach and spent as much time as possible in the sea snorkelling and swimming. Completing his Open Water course at the age of 16 he made his way through the ranks eventually attaining the Instructor rating a few years later.  In 2001 he took off to backpack around South America.  A year later he found himself in the Galapagos Islands doing some of the diving of his life!  Being in the right place at the right time he met not only his partner, Karin, but also ended up teaching diving in these Emerald Isles.  What followed was a number of years teaching diving in the Red Sea, the Caribbean and the Maldives.  2 years dive guiding on board the award winning Tornado Marine Fleet boat, the Hurricane, did his career no end of good. He has branched out into many different fields of diving including photography, videography, rebreather diving and trimix. After 10 years on the move a change in scenery was needed.  The challenge of owning and running a UK dive centre was too much to resist.  Managing Oxygene Cranleigh since the end of 2008 he has been instrumental in turning the school into Surreys Premier scuba training facility.  Already interested in equipment maintenance he has qualified with all of the major manufacturers to service their regulators, BCDs and other equipment.  He now runs the Oxygene Cranleigh Manufacturer Authorised Service Centre, servicing around 300 regulators a year.

"I enjoy every time I drop into the sea no matter where it is. Over the past 2 years I have done a lot of diving here in the UK including Lundy Island, The Scillies, Normandy and more and have really enjoyed it. I never get sick of seeing the enjoyment on peoples faces when they learn to dive or see something underwater they havent seen before. This keeps me doing this. Actually there is nothing else I can see myself doing!"

Karin

Karin von Arx - PADI Instructor 942693

Karin is Swiss by nationality and grew up in a small village near Bern.  Skiing and Snowboarding before she could walk, she discovered the underwater world on a trip to the great Barrier Reef in Australia where she completed her Open Water Course in 1995.  Diving in Swiss mountain lakes never appealed to her so each time she went on holiday to tropical climes she completed her next PADI qualification.  On Lake Malawi In 2000 she qualified as a PADI Divemaster during her travels through Africa. Shortly afterwards she found herself in the Galapagos Islands teaching courses whilst gazing at Hammerhead Sharks in the blue.  This wasn't the only wild life to catch her eye.....traveling on with Joe to teach diving in some of the most exotic locations on the planet.  Managing dive centres in the Red Sea she was able to utilise her business savvy whilst showing up for work in bikini and flip-flops!  She rates diving amongst the atolls of the Maldives as some of the best on the planet. Relishing a challenge she is now one of the Directors of Oxygene Cranleigh.  A wild life lover she has jumped at the chance to dive with the Seals of Lundy Island. Taking photographs and rebreather diving are her passions.

"The underwater world fascinates me.  After a few days/weeks of staying dry I'm already looking for an opportunity to jump back in!  I teach diving because I hope that every student can gain as much enjoyment out of diving as I do.  If I can be a part of someone gaining an appreciation of the wonderful marine life thats out there then I've done my job and I'm happy."

Nicky

Sam

Sam Harrison - PADI Instructor 277555

Sam is British and has had a varied career before discovering scuba diving.  After traveling and working in various fields including chalet hosting, teaching sailing and more, she found herself in Aruba in the Caribbean. She thought to herself. "Why not give scuba diving a spin?"  She fell in love with it immediately and worked her way up to Divemaster level. Needing a change she got herself a drysuit and In March 2010 she started a 7 month internship at a diving centre in Ireland. There she worked in the shop and in the school, gaining valuable experience in the dive industry.  The culmination was passing her PADI Instructor Examination on the 31st of Oct 2010.  She started working fulltime with Oxygene Cranleigh in December 2010.  Bringing with her a keen attitude and a strong desire to teach she is the perfect front person for our school. She loves diving warm water but her time diving around the Maharee Islands on the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland has given her a keen taste for cold water diving...shes looking forward to getting involved with the Oxygene Cranleigh Diving Society calender in 2011.

"Im just happy being underwater whether its looking at wrecks, Parrotfish, Wrasse or Seals.  I love to teach.  The look on peoples faces the first time they start breathing underwater is priceless and the reason I do this!"

Steve

Steve Reid - PADI Instructor 634432

Steve first dived in Jamaica in 1998 whilst on holiday, and was truly inspired to spend as much of his life breathing underwater and has since logged over 1000 dives. Associated with Oxygene Cranleigh he worked his way up through the ranks gaining valuable experience along the way. He certified as a PADI Pro in 2004 and has since taught over 500 divers both here in the UK, and abroad on a variety of PADI courses.  He enjoys taking people on their first ever dive even if it is just in the pool, but also has great job satisfaction bringing people up to PADI Divemaster or PADI Assistant Instructor level. He also enjoys teaching Emergency First Response Courses on a regular basis. When not teaching he likes to dive pretty much anywhere there is water really! Hes been lucky enough to dive in Barbados, St Lucia, The Red Sea, Cape Verde, Portugal, Thailand and plenty of wreck diving in UK waters. He enjoys taking photos underwater and has recently discovered the joys of twinset, decompression and trimix diving.

"I love the smiles on new divers faces when they pass their Open Water Course. I also enjoy the satisfaction on the faces of divers as they qualify for further PADI courses.  It makes me very happy to see them happy and enjoying their diving."

Simply the Best is exactly that - simply the best of the Southern Red Sea. The itinerary focuses on the reef systems of the Brothers and Daedalus, which together make up the Northern Marine Park. The Egyptian Marine Parks are protected areas and places of magnificent beauty underwater. Straddling Marsa Alam north and south, these two reef systems are beacons of light in the middle of the Red Sea and their lighthouses have warned passing ships throughout the years of the dangers that hide beneath the waves. Not far from the shores of Marsa Alam, Simply the Best closes with a dive at Elphinstone, a fine addition to your log book.
Simply the Best is an advanced itinerary and normally divers are required to hold a PADI Advanced certification. However with a member of the Oxygene Surrey Teaching staff along on the trip and up to 3 dives a day scheduled, there is plenty of opportunity to complete a PADI Advanced Open Water Course whilst on board  (Just £180 including manuals, certification and tuition).
Other PADI Specialties will also be on offer such as Nitrox, Deep, Drift, Peak Performance Buoyancy and more.  Call for prices.   These holidays are popular so please call now with a non refundable £250 deposit to secure your space.  Balance payable 8 weeks prior to travel.  01483 279 879

Whirlwind

Whirlwind takes pride of place at the front of the award winning Tornado Marine Fleet. She is the result of many years working with divers and it shows. The approach is professional and the quality is unsurpassed. Launched in May 2006, Whirlwind certainly knows how to make a great first impression.

The signature design with split level dining room and saloon optimises the already generous space on board this 36m vessel. Light and airy, all 10 cabins are twin beds, en-suite with air con and have a safe box. The saloon area is ample with welcoming sofas, tables, plasma screen, DVD, a multi channel sound system, juice and hot drink station and of course the popular bar. Daedalus, Rocky Island, Zabargad and Fury Shoals offers some of the best diving in the Southern Red Sea. After check diving close to Marsa Alam, its an overnight trip out to the isolated reef of Daedalus.  Every inch of Daedalus is covered in hard corals, sea fans, cleaning stations and anemones. But the main attraction is the schooling Hammerheads. Threshers are also common along with Oceanic White Tips and Grey Reef Sharks.  With plunging walls this is spectacular diving!  Again overnight travel takes us down to the very Southern reaches of the Egyptian Red Sea.  Two isloated islands called Rocky and Zabargad offer diving with steep walls, fantastic corals and overhangs.  Looping back around to head north again the reefs of Fury Shoals are a stunning way to finish the itinerary.  This trip is ideal for anyone wanting to Learn to Dive. Lundy Island Dive and Accommodation Package 2012

Around England there is 5913 kilometres of coastline containing 8000 species of animals and plants. Of this coastline there exists only one protected area...Lundy Island Marine Nature Reserve. As a result this small island lying 11 miles off the western coast in the Bristol Channel, has a well deserved reputation for scuba diving. Strong currents sweep around the island, bringing food to the many types of marine life thriving in its waters. Life to expect includes Kelp, Sea Fans, Sponges, Sea Urchins, Sea Slugs, Wrasse and hydroids to name but a few. One of the main reasons people dive on Lundy is for the chance to interact with the Grey Seals. The Island has its own breeding colony that uses the inaccessible beaches and caves for pupping.
